The Department of Internal Medicine, University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, Alabama is looking for a full-time board eligible/board certified Gastroenterologist to join the Division of Gastroenterology at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level. Responsibilities will include teaching students, house staff and fellows, patient care, performance of general endoscopy procedures and basic and/or clinical research.

The Division has faculty that are leaders in academic medicine and have international reputations in Gastroenterology. Divisional faculty are regional leaders for programs in inflammatory bowel disease, capsule endoscopy, advanced endoscopy, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, liver tumors, pre and post liver transplant, and esophageal disorders. There are strong collaborations with physicians and investigators in USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute.

The Division has had a fellowship program for 30 years that accepts 2 fellows per year and maintains a robust clinical trials program.

The GI Division is an integral part of the Digestive Health Center. The Center and Division are bolstered by excellent programs in Colorectal Surgery, Hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery, and bariatric and foregut surgery. There is also a program in Advanced Endoscopy and a new endoscopy suite. The Digestive Health Center is supported by USA Health’s over 200 academic physicians and surgical specialists, two hospitals, and approximately 25 specialty outpatient care centers. In addition, USA Health has a large group of primary care physicians who work in a community practice model who refer to the Division and the Digestive Health Center. The GI Division has developed an outstanding referral base along the Northern Gulf Coast. Division faculty work closely with their colleagues in primary care, surgery and other specialties to treat a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal conditions. The busy clinical faculty complete around 6,500 endoscopies per year, with expectations for that number to increase.

The University of South Alabama Health System helps people lead longer, better lives through its excellence in education, research and medical care. With more than 6,000 employees, USA Health’s network includes University Hospital, USA Health Children’s and Women’s Hospital, USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, USA Health Physicians Group and the USA College of Medicine. Each year, our team of physicians, residents and fellows, advanced practice providers and support staff handle 200,000 clinic visits and 400,000 outpatient procedures. The USA Health system delivers 3,000 babies a year, more than any other regional hospital, and treats patients through some 60,000 emergency room visits annually.

In addition to advanced and innovative patient care at University hospitals and clinics, USA’s medical education programs provide first-class training for the next generation of physicians and scientists.
