The Department of Internal Medicine, University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, Alabama is looking for a full-time board certified Gastroenterologist to join the Division of Gastroenterology as Division Chief. The Division of Gastroenterology is home to 6 full-time faculty and has had a fellowship program for 30 years. The Division has maintained a robust clinical trials program and has current and former faculty that are leaders in academic medicine and have international reputations in Gastroenterology. Divisional faculty are regional leaders for programs in inflammatory bowel disease, capsule endoscopy, advanced endoscopy, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, liver tumors, pre and post liver transplant, and esophageal disorders. There are strong collaborations with physicians and investigators in USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute.

The GI Division is an integral part of the Digestive Health Center. The Center and Division are bolstered by excellent programs in Colorectal Surgery and Hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery. There is also a program in Advanced Endoscopy and a new endoscopy suite. The Digestive Health Center is supported by USA Health’s over 200 academic physicians and surgical specialists, two hospitals, and approximately 25 specialty outpatient care centers. In addition, USA Health has a large group of primary care physicians who work in a community practice model who refer to the Division and the Digestive Health Center. The GI Division has developed an outstanding referral base along the Northern Gulf Coast. Division faculty work closely with their colleagues in primary care, surgery and other specialties to treat a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal conditions. The busy clinical faculty complete around 6,500 endoscopies per year, with expectations for that number to increase.

Position Overview-
The Chief reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and is responsible for the leading direction of the Division of Gastroenterology. Additionally, the Chief will:

*Shape the future of the division by working with faculty and staff to develop and articulate the divisional and vision and goals;
*Develop and enact a plan for divisional expansion and clinical program growth;
*Ensure the delivery of high-quality training and support faculty teaching enhancement;
*Maintain a high quality academic environment and provide support for faculty research;
*Formulate and communicate recommendations for hiring, tenure, promotion, and retention of a diverse set of faculty and divisional staff;
*Facilitate growth and expansion of the GI fellowship program;
*Develop innovative collaborations;
*Maintain a divisional climate that is hospitable and encourages faculty and staff engagement, participation, collegiality, and innovation;
*Explore the future growth and development of academic/community partnerships in the Gulf Coast region.
*Work collaboratively with USA Health Leadership in management of the Digestive Health service line.

Position Qualifications-
The Chief is required to possess an M.D. degree (or equivalent) and board certification in Gastroenterology. Applicants must be eligible to be licensed and practice medicine in the State of Alabama. In addition, it is preferred that the Chief possesses:
*Successful leadership and administrative experience in an academic medical setting;

*Broad knowledge of the healthcare landscape and a vision for the future of medical education;
*Interest and experience in collaborative community engagement;
*Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
*Academic credentials commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate of full professor.
