Job Summary:Responsible for care of patients in the clinic, hospital and endoscopy center by providing them with healthcare services that meet state and national standards for caregiving.



Education and Experience:

  • Medical degree from an accredited program is required
  • Board certified (or elgibile) in internal medicine and or GI is required
  • Active Oregon physician license and in good standing is required
  • Active DEA registration; in good standing is required
  • ACLS and BLS certification is required
  • Fives years of GI experience is preferred




ü  Good command of the English language, both verbal and written

ü  Arrive timely and meet the needs of the company as demanded by the schedule, particularly when overtime hours and time changes become necessary

ü  Understanding of HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable federal and state regulations

ü  Communicate clearly and effectively with providers, coworkers, and patients

ü  Meet and exceed short and long term goals as established for the department

Essential Job Duties:

While Working at Salem Gastro:

ü  Assess patient health by interviewing patient, perform physical examinations, obtain, update, and study the medical history

ü  Issue orders for medications, treatments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and or referrals


ü  Code visit accurately and timely

ü  Perform patient history and physical

ü  Establish medical diagnoses

ü  Order and interpret diagnostic tests

ü  Provide health education and counseling to patient and family

ü  Document information accurately and promptly

ü  Maintain desktop in EMR

ü  Answer flag, phone notes, and other documents from staff and other providers timely

ü  Comply with federal and state legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising Administration on needed actions

ü  Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational conferences; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies

ü  Act as a resource for other members of the health care team, share knowledge and expertise with staff through discussion



While Working at Salem Endoscopy:

ü  Perform endoscopy procedures

ü  Code visit accurately and timely

ü  Provide health education and counseling to patient and family

ü  Document information accurately and promptly



While Working in the Hospital:

ü  Evaluate and treat patients in the emergency room on the inpatient setting

ü  Perform endoscopy procedures on inpatients and outpatients

ü  Conduct patient rounds

ü  Code visit accurately and timely

ü  Evaluate changes in the patient's condition

ü  Write admission, consultation, procedure, and discharge reports

ü  Consult with hospitalists, surgeons, and other hospital personal as needed

ü  Help manage the hospital patient list

ü  Initiate and implement an individualized medical plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals

ü  Initiate necessary diagnostic, therapeutic, and medical actions in compliance with approved protocols with the physician on call

ü  Provide follow-up care, including acute and routine examinations, based on the chief complaint

ü  Assess progress, identify problems, initiate preventative measures, recognize emergent issues, and initiate proper care

ü  Prescribe and regulate medication per physician consultation or protocols

ü  Recognize normal and abnormal laboratory findings and the pathology involved

ü  Document and maintain clinical activities in the respective patient's chart

ü  Meet regularly with and work collaboratively to affect programmatic change and develop protocols

ü  Identify goals for the patient and communicate them to others involved in the patient's care

ü  Utilize supplies, equipment, and resources to contain cost without compromising the delivery of care

ü  Document information accurately and promptly



Working Conditions:

ü  Varied activities include but are not limited to, walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, lifting

ü  Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time

ü  Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye coordination

ü  Ability to use an array of office equipment including, but not limited to a computer, copier, multi-line telephone, etc

ü  Ability to use standard medical equipment and supplies including but not limited to a stretcher, cardiac monitor, thermometer, oximeter, blood pressure machine/manual, blood glucose monitor, wall suction and intravenous supplies

ü  May on occasion require light lifting of no greater than 50 pounds


ü  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range

ü  Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours at times

ü  May have exposure to patients with infectious diseases
